Always Tired? Don't Trust "Adrenal Fatigue." Here's What Research Actually Says.

Exhausted no matter how much you sleep? The internet will sell you a fake diagnosis and a bag of powders. The real causes are checkable, and most of them are fixable.

"Adrenal fatigue" is not a diagnosis

No endocrinology society recognizes adrenal fatigue. Real adrenal disorders exist. Addison's disease and adrenal insufficiency are diagnosed with blood tests and treated with medicine. "Adrenal fatigue" is a marketing label. It rebrands ordinary tiredness into something that needs expensive supplements. Reject the label. Keep the symptom.

Fatigue is genuinely everywhere. A CDC report from September 2026, based on roughly 27,000 US adults, found 71.5% felt fatigued at least some days in the prior 3 months. 16.6% felt it most days or every day. Women reported frequent fatigue at 20.0% versus 13.0% for men. You are not imagining it. You just need a real cause, not a fake one.

IV drips, energy blends, and mushroom coffee

IV vitamin drips help if you are deficient in something. If you are not deficient, your kidneys excrete the expensive fluid. That is the whole mechanism. Proprietary "energy blends" hide their doses behind the word proprietary. You cannot judge what you cannot see. Mushroom coffee is mostly caffeine with a story attached. Shilajit has almost no human trials. B12 shots do nothing for energy unless you lack B12.

Check the fixable causes first

Fatigue has a short list of usual suspects. Sleep apnea. Iron deficiency. B12 deficiency. Thyroid problems. Depression. Plain insufficient sleep. Every one of these is common and testable. Ask your doctor for basic bloodwork and an honest conversation about your sleep. This single appointment beats a year of supplements.

What actually raises energy

Move regularly, as much as you can tolerate. Keep a consistent sleep schedule, even on weekends. Get daylight in the morning. Use caffeine in moderation for acute alertness, and stop by early afternoon. These sound boring. Boring is what the evidence supports. The exciting options are exciting because someone profits from them.

Questions, answered

I sleep 8 hours and still feel tired. Why?

Sleep quantity is not sleep quality. Apnea, fragmented sleep, and depression all leave you tired after a full night. Get checked.

Will an energy drink fix this?

Caffeine masks fatigue for a few hours. It does not fix the cause. Late-day caffeine also wrecks tonight's sleep.

When should I see a doctor about fatigue?

If it lasts more than a few weeks, interferes with daily life, or comes with other symptoms. Bring a list of what you have tried.
